The Province of Batanes or simply called Batanes is a group of ten small islands located in the northernmost part of the Philippines. Said province is also the smallest both in terms of population and land area.
The three largest islands are Itbayat, Batan, and Sabtang. Almost one-half of Batanes are hills and mountains. Batanes is rich with marine resources, including the rarest sea corals in the world. Batanes is also called the typhoon capital of the Philippines because most of the typhoons that visit the country usually pass by Batanes. This is also the reason why structures in the province are made of stones and have a unique architecture so it can survive the strongest typhoon. Batanes enjoys practically four seasons, the best ones being summer (April-June) and winter (December-February), when the temperature dips as low as seven degrees Celsius. Mid-March to June is a best time for tourists to visit the province because there is a lower chance of rain. However, the rest of the year can still offer a pleasant experience for tourists depending on the type of activities they are in. When your in Batanes, always remember that weather on the island changes very often. Just be ready for whatever heads your way.
